Shakespeare Live (8–12) Students will learn the tools an actor uses when performing Shakespeare, helping the students to understand his work beyond the page. This interactive class will not only have the students on their feet as they move through physical aspects that make Shakespeare fun, but the class will also learn how to find the literature clues that Shakespeare gives to the actor, making the play no longer have that “foreign language” feeling for students. (3 for 3)
Improvisation: Quick Thinking, Problem Solving and Curriculum Review (3–12) Improvisation is “the practice of acting and reacting, of making and creating, in the moment and in response to the stimulus of one’s immediate environment.” In short, ya gotta think fast. This workshop uses improvisation games and situations, like the television show “Whose Line is it Anyway?” to teach students how to use quick thinking, problem solving and team building to accomplish their goal. Games are also structured for use in curriculum review. Workshop can be tailored to the needs of your class. (3 for 3)
Pulling Together: Creating a Classroom Community (K–12) Cooperation and community are basic foundations not only in theater, but in every aspect of our world. This workshop is structured to help build the foundations of that concept in the students. Improvisation games as well as focus exercises are used to emphasize these ideas, setting a foundation towards building a more communal classroom. Workshops can be tailored to the specific needs of your class. (3 for 3)
A Hawaiian Lesson (K–5) This workshop gives the students the change to experience another culture without having to leave the classroom. They are presented with Hawaiian state facts, they will learn some of the language as well as learn a hula dance. This workshop is a great opportunity to compare and contrast as well as to expose the students to a culture that not everyone is able to experience. (3 for 3)
