AcA's
Creativity @ the Center summer art camps offer creative, challenging
and meaningful hands-on experiences for children. The limited group size
provides opportunities for up-close and personal attention for each
camper. We believe in an approach to teaching and learning that employs
stimulating ideas like self-inquiry and self-expression.
CITYSMARTS ARTS AND SCIENCE CAMP
team sports
June 27 - July 1
Soccer, ice hockey, baseball, football,
basketball, volleyball!
Who
designs the logo of the team to identify the team players and look
cool? What is the best way for Drew Brees to throw his passes to the
receiver? Who designed his shoes for traction and style? How can soccer
players score on an indirect kick? Group sports depend on art and
science to fine-tune team skills and provide a unified team look. Join
this camp and learn all about it!

Golf, tennis, swimming, judo, running, darts, bowling, chess, skateboarding!
Did
you ever wonder who designs skateboards? How do pole vaulters use
leverage to improve their performance? Who created the sculpture of Babe
Zaharis? How were golf clubs designed for her to hit the golf ball
further? Join us and find out how individual players use science and art
to improve their games and their profile.
backyard sports

Hopscotch, hide-and-seek, marbles, roller-skating, croquet, badminton, horseshoes, jump rope!
Examine
the inner workings of the tools and equipment used in simple backyard
games. How can marbles be improved? Who writes the rules and leads the
action in tag? What kind of arm swing guarantees a ringer in horseshoes?
How have wheels on roller skates changed to go faster? Learn the inside
facts in this camp!
SUMMER ARTS INTENSIVES
The Summer Arts Intensives for teens ages 13 - 18, are designed to give
students an in-depth study in many areas of the arts. Participants gain
insight about the skills necessary to work in a particular field of the
arts.

Ever
dreamed of being on the stage or screen? Perhaps makeup, costumes, or
special effects? The Film and Theatre Summer Intensive will show you how
to turn 'play' into a potential career. So come play! And create
commercials with the assistance of the Acadiana Open Channel, Acting Up
(in Acadiana) and the Acadiana Center for the Arts.
graphic design
June 14 - 17Learn
the basics of graphic design by creating an original logo and poster
design. This four-day course will take you through the entire creative
process and will include lessons on concept, illustration, photography,
typography, composition, and color theory.
dance
June 14 - 17Gear
Up to Dance! Here is your opportunity to experience the passion and
focus it takes to dance like you see on TV! During this four-day
workshop, take classes with the incredible teachers and dancers of the
Houston Metropolitan Dance Company. They will teach classes in Jazz,
Contemporary, Modern and Hip Hop with a chance to show what you learned
on the last day in an informal performance. Students will also learn
about choreography, improvisation, costumes, make-up and more!
storyboarding
June 21 - 24Join
us for a peek behind the scenes of a major motion picture and learn to
create professional storyboards by working with an actual screenplay.
Storyboards are used by directors to help guide the filmmaking process.
Lessons will include drawing, sequential storytelling, linear
perspective, and even a bit of acting.
SUMMER ART STUDIOS
These week-long art camps are for kids ages 6 - 12 and teach beginning basic skills in the arts.
art in nature: painting
June 13-17 1:00 - 4:00 pm
This
beginning painting class will teach the basic skills for students to
create their own masterpiece using nature as inspiration. Students will
learn about the color wheel, the use and care of painting tools, some
basic techniques and still have plenty of opportunity for their personal
touch.
art in nature: drawing
June 13-17 @ 9:00 am - Noon
Students
will learn a variety of drawing techniques, to expand their
understanding of the principles of 2-D art. Students will learn about
native plants and animals and develop skills in observation and drawing
in a range of materials such as charcoal, pencils, pen and ink, or oil
pastels.

Explore
world cultures through art making. This multicultural art camp
encourages children to explore the vitality of other world cultures
through the visual and performing arts. Sign up for one day, or spend
the week with us!

2-4 There is a musician in everyone ready to be discovered! Learn how
to express your ideas and emotions through music and create your own
songs. We will be recording our music and designing artwork for CD
covers and T-shirts... with a final performance to top it all off.
EXTENDED DAY
The
AcA offers an extended day for all of our summer camps and intensives.
Morning extended day session is from 7:30 - 9:00. Afternoon extended day
session is from 4:00 - 5:30. Each has a cost of $5 per session per day.
Pre-registration discounts: Register in advance for all 5 morning and
afternoon sessions for $40.
